When To Take Newborn Photos | South Jordan Newborn Photographer

Studio Newborn Photography Session. South Jordan, Utah. April 23rd, 2024.

When to take newborn photos is a question most moms have when they first contact me to schedule their newborn photography session. So, if you’re wondering if there is an ideal time frame to take newborn photos, the answer is yes, there is. The ideal time to take newborn photos is during the first three weeks after birth. During this time, babies are still sleeping most of the time, allowing the session to run smoothly so you do not feel stressed during your photo session. Having a sleeping baby during the session makes things easier and more enjoyable. I start by photographing your newborn alone and then with both parents together, and finally, each parent with the baby. We take breaks for feeding, diaper changing, and soothing the baby as needed.

When should I reach out to schedule the newborn session? Around the second trimester, after the 20-week ultrasound, is the best time to schedule your newborn session. This will give us more flexibility to adjust the date as needed to what works best for your family and baby’s arrival. What if I didn’t schedule my session and my newborn is already at home? Please reach out as soon as possible, and I will try my best to schedule the newborn session as soon as I have availability. Also, moms, know that there is never a wrong time to photograph your baby. If you decide to wait until the baby is older or if the baby needed a NICU stay, reach out. It is never too late to photograph your baby.

Taylor and Gabe arrived at my natural light studio in South Jordan with their perfect, happy baby, Drew! Here are some of my many favorite images from Drew’s studio newborn session.
