Fresh 48 Photography at Intermountain’s American Fork Hospital | Utah Newborn Photographer

Fresh 48

It’s always a special honor to be invited back to photograph a growing family. I first met this sweet family two years ago when I photographed their baby boy’s Fresh 48 session—also right here at American Fork Hospital. And now, I had the privilege of capturing their newest addition, a beautiful baby girl, in those tender first hours after birth.

There’s something truly timeless about Fresh 48 photography. These sessions take place within the first day or two after your baby is born—before you’ve even left the hospital. Your baby is still brand new, and you’ve waited so long for this moment. The little details, like the hospital swaddle, tiny fingers, wrinkled toes, and the way your baby curls right into you—it’s all so fleeting. A few weeks later during your in-home newborn session, your baby will already look a little different. That’s why Fresh 48 sessions are the perfect add-on to document the very beginning, alongside your more styled at-home session.

What Is a Fresh 48 Session?

Fresh 48 sessions are lifestyle photo sessions done at the hospital, usually within 24–48 hours of birth. They’re short, sweet, and incredibly meaningful. There’s no need for props, outfits, or a lot of preparation—just your family, your baby, and the story of your first hours together. These sessions focus on real connection and the emotion of welcoming your little one.

When Should I Book?

I always recommend booking your Fresh 48 session while you’re still pregnant—typically during your second or early third trimester. I only take on a limited number of Fresh 48 sessions each month, since they require on-call availability. We pencil in your due date, and then once baby arrives, we coordinate the best time for me to come by the hospital within that 48-hour window.

Can I Book a Fresh 48 and a Newborn Session?

Yes! Many families choose to add a Fresh 48 to their in-home newborn session. It’s a beautiful way to tell the full story of your baby’s arrival—the first moments in the hospital and those quieter, cozy days once you’re home. These two sessions complement each other perfectly and together create a complete newborn story you’ll treasure for years.

A Few Common Questions

Do I need to bring anything?

Not at all. These sessions are very relaxed. I’ll guide you through everything, and we’ll use whatever the hospital provides—your baby in a swaddle, your hands holding theirs, maybe a soft blanket from home. There’s no pressure to dress up or clean anything. This is real life, and that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful.

Will I look tired?

You just had a baby—of course you might! But the emotion, the love, the raw beauty of that moment? That’s what I’m there to capture. You’ll never regret being in these photos.

Do you photograph siblings too?

Yes! It’s incredibly meaningful to document the moment siblings meet for the first time. Whether they’re curious, excited, or still warming up to the idea, those first introductions are priceless.
