I took my daughter to see the cherry blossoms at the Utah State Capitol this spring. Like I always do, I brought my camera but this time, I made sure to keep things simple. I spent about 10–15 minutes taking some sweet photos of her twirling under the blossoms, soaking in the magic of the season. Then I put my camera away so I could be fully present and play with her. I love photographing her, but I’ve learned it’s just as important to enjoy the moment, too.
It also reminded me of something that’s been on my heart: as moms, we’re almost always the ones behind the camera. We’re capturing their childhoods, but rarely stepping into the frame ourselves. And while our little ones will love seeing photos of themselves when they grow up, they’ll also want to see us how we looked at them, how much we loved them, how fully we were there.
So here’s your gentle reminder: you deserve to be in the frame. These seasons are fleeting, and they’re worth remembering, for you and for them.
I make it a point to get photos taken every year, and this year we’re planning for fall. Utah’s fall colors are absolutely stunning—there’s something about the golden leaves and crisp air that makes it my favorite season. I truly love photographing families in every season, but fall has my heart.
If you’re like me and don’t often see yourself in the photos, let’s change that. Let’s plan your session so you can be in the photos, too.
Get in touch I’d love to photograph you and your little ones this season.
